Not really sure what the problem could be. It sounds like you have everything set up the way it should be.
Tell you what, though, if this is a brand new skimmer and you have leaking going on, you should exchange it for another one. I don't know how easy or difficult that would be, but a product is supposed to behave in a certain manner and just the leaking alone says yours isn't. The pump you have - did it come with the skimmer? You mentioned you were "using" a pump, but you didn't say if it was part of the package. A skimmer will usually have recommendations for what type of pump to use if one isn't included, and it could very well be that you're forcing too much water through. If exchanging the skimmer and/or getting a more appropriately-sized pump (and I say this without knowing what your skimmer is rated for - assumption on my part) isn't an option, try what was suggested to you earlier - install a ball or gate valve on the pump and try to throttle it back a bit. As far as what the long-term effect might be on the pump if you do this, I don't have the answer to that I'm afraid. |

thanks 1F2FRFBF, the pump was not inclused, i think i will try a valve and see how that goes.
