I was using a ProClear 150 and it didn't do anything. I tried it because they're a local company and everyone in town has them in stock. The Octopus pulled more in one day than the proclear did in a week.

FLOW! (I know, this is a side note)
A good skimmer is totally worthless without good flow in the tank and the overflow. I found that out the hard way when I had two pumps go bad on me. Within 2 days I was skimming about nothing. By the way, I switched back to 3 MJ 1200's (on a 72 bow) because I've had a Koralia 3 break a shaft (they've since gone to metal shafts instead of plastic) and 2 SEIO 1100's get internal shorts (thank God for GFCI). I've never had an MJ go bad on me and I don't have a problem with laminar flow (I think that's what you call it) when I aim the pumps appropriately. My anemone sways back and forth nicely and there's always good turbulence in there. So, is it just me or are MJs not just fine? |

I just bought a Oceanic Tech 45, Oceanic Tech stand, Oceanic 1/10 chiller, Oceanic model 1 sump and Coralife Aqualight Pro 150, all new for a good price.
However, I found out the hard way that the model 1 doesn't fit and I wasn't paying attention when I bought the 150w MH, so I had to go out and by a replacement 250w setup. Also, I have a vortech on the way. I'm planning on moving all my SPS out of my 92 and setting up a bare-bottom, crazy flow SPS and zoa only tank. For those of you that have 45s, what do you use for a return pump? I'm done with Mags if possible. The return will need to run my chiller too.

pete, i have a oceanic 3500 (900gph) on my 70g. have a oceanic 2500 (650gph) set aside for the chiller. when all is done, i may just use the 3500 for both chiller and return. still up in the air on that one. what dimensions do you have under the stand to work with in regards to a sump?

Ok I will jump into this thread
I purchased my Tech 120 black trim about 8 weeks ago it came with the overflow kits. It cost me 550.00 out the door The stores suppler was having a sale on the Tech series I have not done much with it since I have had a cast on my leg for 7 of the eight weeks. I am going to build my own stand and hood out of Oak Plywood Thinking about using a Oceanic 58Gal for a sump I Have a Euroreef CS8-2 Skimmer I am thinking of using four T5s with two 250 Hqi MH in Sunlight Supply LumenMax 3 Reflectors as the lighting I am thinking of using a Sequence ReeffFlow Snapper Pump This will be my second Oceanic build I had my 200 setup for about 9 years before I broke it down two years ago I get my Cast off in two weeks so I will be starting on the stand then. I am open to all Ideas so throw them out there as if you were going to do it again Jason

Anyone hear anything more on if/when they will have 180s and/or 210 in the Tech series?
I am considering a new tank in the next year or so and want to start researching my options. I emailed the company a couple of times but they dont seem interested in responding (hmm, maybe a bad sign right there). Anyway, I am really liking the looks of quite a few of the tanks in this thread, you guys are making some great looking systems with these tanks.

I sent an e-mail yesterday to Central Aquatics, asking about future plans to manufacture the Tech series in sizes such as 180, 210, and 300 gallon sizes. Here is Rob's response......... "I haven’t heard of any, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t, We only hear of things like that when they are ready to launch the new product." thanks for checking for me Joe. Kind of a bummer that they arent making a larger one...even a 180 would be nice. I never got a response to like five emails in the past month....I like these tanks a lot but a potential customer shouldnt have to stalk the company for info! And dont have an email option on your website if no one ever checks it!

If you ever need any information on Coralife, Oceanic, All-Glass, etc., e-mail Rob directly. In the subject line of your e-mail, begin the topic with "re:" . You'll receive a quick response this way.

Anyone have any issues with cleaning algae/coralline from the overflow box? I was wondering due to the textured finish on the plastic.
Thanks, Paul
