Ranco Temperature Controller anyone?

I was wondering how accurate the temperature is on these things.

Also does the whole probe part, like 1.5' need to be submerged? Is the cork-tape it comes with reef safe?

I used one a while back, but now I am using my aquacontroller.

I think they are very accurate. I had my fans set to come on at 81 with the ranco, and sure enough as soon as it hit 81.0 on the aquacontroller the fans kicked on.

Thats my experience with it. I used for a year and it worked great. A lot of people are using them so you should be alright. You just need to submerge the tip of the probe in the water.

i'm very happy with mine. the whole probe must submerged. ranco is a big company. aqualogic rebrands them and charges more. go to diyreef .com for a good deal.

I've been using one for the past 6 yrs without any problems. I would say yes, it is accurate. I have a seperate digital thermometer that is mounted outside the tank. I keep my tank at 80 degrees and have a the controller turn my chiller on once it hits 82 degrees. The moment i see my thermometer hit 82 degrees, the controller turns the chiller on without a hitch.

I have my probe fully submerged in my sump. Which reminds me, I need to scrape all the corraline from it soon.

You can also get them from Grainger. I think I paid 30 bucks for mine.

Mine has a pretty long cord attached to the probe. I have the probe in the overflow and the controller mounted on the wall. mine works Great.

The cord is very long. You can see the controller on the wall and the probe is on the bottom of the sump with extra cord to spare.
