CPB HOB Overflow
I have had a CPR overflow for almost two years. It has been pretty dependable. On Tuesday my city had to work on the power and shot off our electric for an hour. I shut down my fuge for the day to prepare for the outage. When I came home that night to get everything going, I noticed my overflow was making some very loud gurgling noises.
Does anyone know what I can do to stop this? Thanks for your help.

CPR overflows are notorious for getting air trapped in them and losing shiphon. Most on-line vendors sell a pump that will pull the air our of the overflow tube. Or, you could just hook the fitting on the overflow tube up to the venturi of one of your powerheads.

There's probably air in a tube some place, maybe at the top of a bend or something. Maybe try inserting some airline tubing and sucking the air pocket out?

Good point though, I assumed his overflow was one with the fitting to attach airline tubing.

Hehe, stalking. Yes!
I wasn't sure, but I remembered how I had to restart the siphon in my Lifereef overflows when I took them apart to clean them. Man, I drank a lot of salt water. Blech.

Here's a quote from Premium Aquatics regaring air in overflows.
*NOTE* Air can get trapped in your overflow from time to time and will need bled out. You can avoid this by hooking up an AquaLifter Air Water Feed Pump or venturi pump, keeps it free of bubbles and always restarts perfect.

I've never used the aqualifter pump myself but, if I remember correctly, they need to be cleaned frequently. Have you cleaned it recently? Maybe it's just not performing up to par.
Also, you could try removing the airline tubing from the aqualifter and such the air out of the overflow manually, then reattach to the aqualifter.

willie, is the gurgling that you are hearing coming from the drain to your sump/fuge, or from the u-shaped portion of your overflow! If you have your aqualifter on and your return pump off, it will keep making that on/off gurgling noise as the aqualifter has no water to stop it from making that noise!
