recommended beginner LPS?

Hello,

Got my 4-24w t-5 SLS set-up on my tank and will have my Aqua C Remora protein skimmer tomorrow. I plan on buying my first LPS this weekend and needed some recommendations.

This is what I have in my tank now:

Clarkii
YWG
2 Peppermint Shrimp
5 Mexican turbos
mixed (15-20) blue/red legged hermits
In qt for another week new royal gramma and green chromis.

I like the hammer and frogspawn. I've seen some thread's about clown's irritating or making frogspawns unhappy. However, not sure if this is just particular clown's or all clown species.

Would like some other types that are good beginner lps.

Suggestions? Comments?

Thanks,

Chris

Yellow Cup Coral (Turbinara spp)

Candy Cane Coral (Calaustrea spp)

Cynarina

Fungia Plate Coral

Fungia Tongue Coral

Bubble Coral

These corals prefer lower to medium light (lower especially for Cynarina), and lower water flows.

I suggest getting a couple of good books, too, to help you avoid future purchase mistakes (Eric Borneman's book is very good).

Hope this helps.

Clowns are kinda goofy when it comes to hosts. They will host in jsut about anything. I have even heard of one host a powerhead. I know that sounds silly.

hosting on a powerhead? like on the sponge prefilter? That's wacky!

I had a clown hosting in my torch and it boosted growth, some species don't like all the rubbing, my clown drove my favia nuts

Yeah, I've read of the clowns hosting around powerheads..lol..maybe that's why there "clowns". I wasn't necessarly expecting the clown to host in a frogspawn or hammer, but just didn't know if he would be of any nuiscance if he tried to.. If he does and the coral is ok, well then so be it..Just looking for a little insight before I got one of them.

I'd get a "sacrificial" frilly something first. Mushroom? Then if the clown is going to host something - let it be that.

How loyal are clowns to their hosts I wonder.

clowns are not loyal at all,

I had a skunk clown who rubbed himself on every coral in the tank, kinda like goldie locks or something. He settled into my alveopora and was there for 6 months. When I sold him as a pair with his host he ditched the alveo and ran straight to the new guy's anemone and never looked back. That's a 180 from the fish I knew who would mope if I dared move his host
