I'd help you, but you'd have to buy the round trip plane ticket from Texas. How far away is uh-oh? He's only one state off at least.

Let me - the grandpa with three herniated discs, be the first to offer assistance to a lady in need.

Edit - make that second.

LOL Thanks!

Uh_Oh is about an 1 1/2 - 2 hours away from me.

I've decided that I'm not even going to wrap this thing. Maybe set it up for him the night before while he's sleeping so he has a nice surprise when he comes out in the morning!

I'm sorry about your back Dkh! How'd you manage to herniate 3 discs??

THere are 'moving' companies you can hire to come in and move one sofa across your living room, if you want to pay for it.

Or you can put a big card on his plate at dinner that says, Early Christmas, This Counts! Look in Garage!

He'll remember it, for sure.

Actually it is UA Friendly - remodeling my front porch. Had to replace all 9 support posts in one day with my BIL. Midway thru the process, my back started hurting so I took a couple of Advil, then a percocet so I could finish. Woke up the next morning and couldn't even stand up I was in so much pain. Into the doc, MRI the next day and viola - 3 herniated discs. Percocets until I could get into the pain management clinic. The next weekend, while taking the percocet's, I decided to experiment with my table saw. Percocets and table saws don't mix. 12 stitches in the palm of my hand.

Ouch dkh! You certainly got a double whammy out of that one!

Nina/Poukie,

he's been trying to get into doing tinsmithing a took a course recently. He was hinting that he wanted me to get him a couple of the more important tools used in the trade, but most of them aren't even made anymore. So... after a lot of looking around, I found a place over in Ohio that sells vintage tools. I ended up buying him a stake plate and a blowhorn stake anvil. The stake plate is the heavy piece and it is used to hold up the stake anvil(s). The stake plate is 70 pounds, and the blowhorn anvil is around 15-20lbs. All forged steel baby!

I might end up asking the other guy that works in our building if he could help out since he lives out this way as well. Plus, he's got a truck which would fair better than my car with the extra weight.

Here's one of the things that he made at his course -- it's a decorative candle holder. He also made a chandelier, but I can't figure out for the life of me where he's put it.

You could rent a tripod hoist, but if it swung it might take out your car door! Since it's undamageable, however, you might tie a snug cradle of rope around it, put a blanket on the garage floor, run the line around something/over a beam... for a pulley-haul/hoist, and pull. If it tumbles out onto the blanket, cool---you can wrap it in the quilt and put a bow on it.

Good idea Sk8r! I guess another thing I could maybe do is put it on a dolley and move it that way.

I know your pain -- herniated two discs about 3 months ago while rehabbing my knee. Knee gave out one day during PT, the next morning I couldn't get out of bed -- had to call my father to have him get me out of bed and down the stairs. Already have had two injections into my back. Still is killing me.

Jokergirl -- Buy a big box somewhere, add bricks of bags of sand or something till its heavy, then pack the box full of peanuts or something, but before yu o all that tape a peice of paper in the bottom of the box that says - your gift is in the garage

works like a charm

I feel your girlliness!! So I bought my bf a craftsman toolchest for xmas, this lil 17 ish yr old boy practically skips across the parkinglot with it, loads it up.

I pull up to my garage and my bfs a few rooms away.
I try to pull this thing out of th truck and fall flat on my butt.

I get it out of the truck and it hit the ground with a loud bang
(bf had xbox headphones on though. whew!

I wrapped it in the garage and buried behind stuff

PITA

Sorry it's taken so long to answer back, I havn't had a safe chance to really look at this thread since he's been hovering over me a ton... he's really bad about snooping when it comes to xmas time

Anyways... thanks for the offers of help. I got a call that my parents are going to be coming up next week, so I'll have my Dad to help me!

I definitely feel like a wussy girly girl! The weight isn't what makes it tough, but more the length of it. If it was a square box that weighed 80lbs, I'd probably be okay!
