odd yellow tang?

I have a yellow tang and every now and then, now more than usual he tends to lay on his side in the sand for a bit. Then he pops up and swims around like nothing happened. Is this normal or is he all messed up?

Maybe ammonia poisoning?

Did you measured ammonia just now?

That yellow is exibiting behavior that of a blue hippo tang. Blue hippo tangs have a tendency to lay on their side and play dead. Monitor the yellow tang carefully. See if any of the other fish is being agressive towards it. Watch for signs of desease and a water change would help as well.

How long have you had this tang? Could it have been caught with cyanide?

No chance for cyanide, all yellow tangs come from Hawaii - where cyanide isn't used.
