I dunno cause he looks a little to dark. I havent seen them in captivity but when I was in Jamaica and at the reefs I saw plenty of them and they where all a little blue. The same with the books I have. I could be wrong but it just looks to dark.

chevron stripes are not perfectly straight such as the ones i the third pic I believe and once again NOT BLACK, looks like he could be a slight variation on the atlantic blue if you look at close details though

I am just going by what they're saying on wetwebmedia. I've never had one so I can't speak from personal observation.

to me his fin structure doesn't look right to be a Atlantic blue. I think like mentioned above it is a ctenochaetus SP of some sort.

It's a Ctenochaetus tang for sure, they have that very distinctive mouth. I am inclined to agree with dvmsn on the ID so far.

I just looked it up in my surgeonfish and rabbitfish ID book. It is a Ctenochaetus striatus. Looks like the form that comes from the Maldives. Looks identical to the one you have. The ones from Japan, Red Sea, Bali and Micronesia look similar but a little different. There is a nuptual color phase where they are white that comes from the Maldives too.
