how often do you replace your carbon?
Subject says it all. I have an emperor 400 in my 55. I fill the plastic media containers with carbon. How often do you think I should replace it?

Every 2-3 months or if I remember, whichever comes last for me. I always try to keep a steady program, but life has a funny way of making me forget little things like carbon, which is a set and forget. If you test regularly, that will help as a guide to your system's needs.

I was told by a lfs to change it every two-three months but after a week or two you can start to see a change in water color. I have been doing a change every three weeks, I also have a light bio load so it may have to be changed quicker than that if needed.

Keep in mind that lots of corals emit toxic compounds as a means of competition (think chemical warfare). In nature, these never build to significant concentrations due to constant water exchange. In your tank, these can be very harmful to sensitive corals. Carbon will help remove these compounds from the water, but to maintain peak effectiveness, you should change it out every few weeks.
