Mixing charcoal and GFO ???
Okay I have a new reactor for the GFO, I'm wondering if anyone can link me good discussion on this...MK

Mark- don't call it charcoal! It's granular activated carbon. There's a big difference. Some people might not know what you mean.
Place the GFO in the reactor FIRST. GAC (granular activated carbon) goes on top of it (or it will end up there anyways!). Carbon tends to need replacing more often/frequently than GFO, and that's the basis most people have against mixing the two in the same reactor. If you choose to run GFO and GAC in separate reactors make sure water enters the carbon reactor FIRST and then the GFO reactor.

I personally mix them. In my reactor I find that they get stirred up very evenly. Although I use far less GFO than I do carbon

I think you can compensate the length of time difference by using them in a ratio that works for your tank. Hope that makes sense.
