I built my 1st nano tank yesterday *pics*

I finally got all the pieces I needed to get it built. This is a 7.4g tank.

I got the 3/8" thick black plexiglass from Canus Plastics off Bank st.

The pump is no different than a power head accept the flow is adjustable between 82-153gph.

I could potentially be OVAS... Kingston for me currently.

Nice clean job, my house is a mess currently due to my DIY skills. The rock looks great too.

I cut some eggcrate to size and spray painted it back and clued it in to hold up filter floss and crabon. I will change the floss every 2days.

That's a REALLY great idea....I may have to do that with my 12g!

How are you holding that acrylic piece in there? Silicone?

The baffle I installed on the acrylic backboard is right up against the glass. The piece fits snug already and the silicone is definately strong enough to hold it in place.

Very nice and clean!
I'm currently planning a nano too using a standard 10 gallon and closing in one end like you have done for a sump.
I was also wondering about using silicone on acrylic, but I think you're right that if it's already snug it should be fine once the silicone cures completely. Did you get the bulkhead and fittings locally (I'm in Ottawa too), or did you have to order them?
Also, when you place the filter and carbon on the eggcrate, did you leave a little room for the water to flow around it so your overflow rate isn't affected? I would think that if you pack it in too tightly, you could have a bit of a nano flood!
Again, great job!, Gord.

I ordered the bulkhead and locline from JL Aquatics in B.C.

I noticed after I ordered it that bigals also sells 1/2" bulkheads but not sure about the 1/2" locline.

It could be packed tight if I wanted. I bought a huge amout of filter floss that I cut to size. I will be sure that the next piece that I cut is smaller.

Cool...Silicone seems like it would work just fine where the backboard isn't really load bearing in any way. Did you have your sheet of acrylic cut for you, or did you do it yourself?

Does anyone know if those SCWD things will work if they're underwater? Would it be possible to do a sort of submerged closed loop kind of idea with a SCWD in that back compartment? Also, I think that would be a perfect place for a refugium. A small light behind the tank and a ball of Chaeto...

Now you've got the wheels turning...I'm gonna be thinking about this for weeks.

Yeah.

I bought the acrylic a little bigger and cut it on my table saw to make 100% sure it would fit perfectly snug. I also cut the teeth with a router and a 1/4" bit.

I don't see why an SCWD wouldint wont under water.

Gotta convince the parents to get a new table saw...lol
I've got a glass shop in town that might cut it to size for me...I think i'm gonna start looking into pricing.

You said you used 3/8"? That seems a little heavy for just a divider...do you think I could get away with 1/8"? What type of silicone did you use?

(Sorry to ask so many questions...the extent of my DIY has been cutting egg crate to fit the top of my QT...lol)
