Those are corals - brown polyps. Not very pretty and they will spread a lot. I have some with a nice green eye, but even those I keep at the bottom of my tank so that thye don't grow out of control.

They aren't necessarily bad, but can compete with other corals for space. So you could remove them if you don't want that type of coral in your tank.

Protopalythoa polyps -- corals in the zoanthid family. Good thing

yup, definately brown zooanthids, nothing to worry about. you can tell by the huge oral disk relative to the tentacles.

I would tweeze them off so you dont get stuck with a big patch of brown polyps.

Zoas are nice, and that rock must be a high quality rock. Congrats, I was expecting to see a gorilla crab or rock anemone from the title, oh well. Congrats on getting something for free that some LFS charge 15-20 bucks for
