Enticing ocellaris into host anemones?
Hi, I've been keeping a marine tank now for near 6 months, this is my first marine tank, and I havent really stocked it that much as of yet as im slowly learning and understanding as much as possiable before adding a new species etc.
Its a 250L tank, with 5 blue chromis, 3 osellaris clowns, 1 large radianthus (now known as heteractis malu i think ? ), 1 small radianthus, and 1 small bubble tip anemone. I've only just recently added the 2 smaller anemone when I added the three clowns. I've read that ocellaris tend not to really bother with the species of anemone that I have, and though i don't really mind if they iteract with them or not it would be nice... Is there any way of coaxing the clowns to use these anemones as hosts - or is it just the luck of the draw, sometimes they will choose a host, other times they wont ? |

Please, does anyone with experience know of ways to encourage the clowns to find hosts. I know clowns don't always adopt hosts, but their sleeping arrangments at night are awkward (in the corners of the tank, in the open, with no cover) and i think they would feel alot happier if they could hide in their host anenomes at night...
Please any comments are appreciated. |

Yes, i've read all those articles mentioned - and they are very good for information on keeping clown fish and anemones. But after using the search function of these forums, reading all the sticky's and even manually searching and browsing i can't seem to find any information on acctually coaxing clownfish to host anemones that they would normally leave alone.

I have RBTA and oscellaris clowns. They didn't show any interest in my RBTA for a month. I used most of the method you can find people mention here.
I did the risky trick. I used the fish net and i kind of guide female clown near the RBTA ( i didn't cover her with net over the RBTA...she had enough space to get away from the RBTA if she didn't want to get in...this is a risky method and you might loose your clown so be careful). Female went near RBTA and kind of brush against the one of the tenacle and run away...i removed the net but she tried this brushing couple of times and next day she wasn't leaving the RBTA. It worked in my case... Last edited by SMS76; 12/28/2004 at 01:49 PM. |

sms thats not something i would do . thats not smart either all you need is 1 anenome to eat a nice clown then what happens thats basically russian street hockey. :-) just leave them be if they want in then they will why stress out a fish to force it into something that may kill it next time you dont want to do something someone should take a net and guide you into it. not funny or morally correct. why should fish be any different.

maybe if i put in more of a predatory fish in with them... nothing that would harm them, just something that would keep territory and kinda of make the clowns feel the need to have abit of extra protection ?
