Yes, ER is still consrvative with their ratings. Deltec rates their version of that skimmer for 270-400 gallons (but it is a recirculationg model). I'd say that skimmer would work great on your system.
Cheers, Jim

Well, I'm kind of bummed. I installed my RS-180 last week and ran it for 3 days. I'm very impressed with the performance, although it is very loud.
I turned the skimmer off to clean it and now it won't start back up unless I turn it on and off a bunch of times. Will Euro-reef upgrade the pump if the skimmer is brand new? I've heard of a bunch of issues like this with the SP-4 pump but I've heard nothing but good things about the SPE-5.

Nice pics. My LFS has one of those and they truly kick ***.
Can anyone put a percentage on the performance enhancement of a RS 180 vs a RC 180? My RS 180 is working well (probably even better when I get my new impeller). I am thinking about the recirc mod but don't want to go through all the trouble if there is no considerable difference. Thanks in advance.

I'm considering the RS180, but have read multiple reports of the pump being quite loud.... tks |

miami13-
I have to take the impeller out to get it to re-start but it's still loud. I spoke to Euroreef and they sent me out a new impeller assembly today. I really am impressed with their customer service. Apparently they got a bad batch of impellers and they will send replacements if your pump has one. Even with the loud motor this thing skims much better than my ASM with the recirc mod. I have a feeling that when I do the recirc mod on this one it is going to really kick ***.

I agree on the customer service!
Our RS180 was so loud my wife made me take it out. I called ER - they sent a new impeller that arrived today. I really hope if quiets the skimmer down............ If not - I'll be looking for something else. Maybe another CS6-1 - it's darn near silent and has been rock solid for close to 4 years........ |

Lunchbucket right .
open full all the air control valve , reduce the water level and you going to get more skimate in the collection cup. |

supposedly some people are noticing finer bubbles on pumps by restricting the air. i've never really messed w/ ti that much. heck i figure why not slam that baby w/ air

Plumbing Problem w/ RC
I have my ER plumbed directly from the overflow and controlled via gate valve and I'm having problems w/ air bubbles getting into the inlet affecting the ER's performance. When I try to adjust the gate valve to where there is no bubbles, flow to the ER is reduced to only ~50gph.
Is there anything I can do or mod to fix the problem? I'm all out of ideas, any help is appreciated, here is how its plumbed. Thanks |

Hello all,
I've got a 90 SPS with a 40 sump. My pump on my ER 6-1 just died on me. Should I upgrade to the sedra 5000, stay with the Sedra 2500 or just buy a whole new skimmer. I've got a medium bioload and I'm a light feeder. Is the RS135 big enough or should I go with the RS180? Thanks for your input! |

Hey guys,
Just thought I'd let others know that Marine Depot is selling the gatevalve mods for $35 and appearantly have lots in stock. I've had a nightmare of a time trying to track down pvc gatevalves and then realized I'd have to buy 10' of tubing ect, ect. Euro-reef sells the mod for $55 I think so Marine Depot is a good choice. I think this will make tuning the RS series about 100x easier. FB

Can anybody with a RC-180 give me the measurements from the bottom of the skimmer to the first hole for the recirc pump? I'm getting ready to do the recirc mod on my skimmer and want to make sure the measurements are the same as ER does it.
Thanks!

The gate valve mod kit is $38 at the ASM site. Where did you see $55?

Can you help me please - I am in the market for a new skimmer - I currently have an ETSS Evolution 500 w/Mag 9.5 running a 70 gallon reef setup heavy load - runs well but needs to be cleaned at least once a week. I don't think it will be large enough for the 180 and the rest of the stuff plumbed into the 180 (see below).
Upgrading to 180 gallon tank - a friend of mine is selling a Euro-Reef CS 12-2 great condition for approx $475.00 another friend is selling a MTC recirculating skimmer for $250 (200 gallon size). I like the ERs don't know much about the MTCs - but for this price range ($275- $475) Reef tank at 180 gallons - medium to heavy load - I don't think I can touch a Deltec or Bubble King at this price for this size - I am leaning towards the ER - knowing it is probably overkill - I will be plumbing in more tanks - like a refugium (70 gallons) and a frag grow out tank (50 gallons), 50 -100 gallon sump for the 180 - Is the ER CS 12-2 for $475 the best I can get for all this and is that a good price (new they were between 900 and $1000 - I think) Final question - are there mods I can make to the CS 12-2 to make it even more efficient and bring it up to current spec (compared to Deltec and BKs etc...) or should I be looking at something altogether different???? You probably should start your own thread. Probably get more responses.
Sorry, I can not help you with ER info, not my cup of tea.

Scooped from the top of the collection cup lid (seen in background). Swiped from the skimmer neck: And something to wash it down with: That is why you have to clean the skimmer more than once a week.
