Rock against glass

I know that I've read that having rock rest directly on the glass make pressure points. However I do have rock aginst the glass and it seems like many others do to. I don't have a lot of weight on the side glass but it does rest aginst it. How many of your tanks do or do not have the rock work up aginst the side and has anyone really had problems?

I have rock touching glass and have had rock touching glass in every tank I have had. Maybe I am lucky but I have had no issues. I do not however have a 55 pound slab of liverock supported by a single nub in the middle of one of the glass sides. I think common sense preveils here.

water offsets a lot of the weight of the rock, so it is way less strain on the glass vs stacked in there dry.

Obviously, you don't want to wedge rocks so they force against the sides since that adds to the overall outward stress on the sides, but touching or leaning also does not add much force.

so, yes, tons of people have rock stacked on the bottom glass and touching the sides with no incident, myself included.

I don't see what the deal is about this either... people go bare-bottom all the time with 100's of pounds of live rock sitting on the bottom of a glass tank supported at just a few points. having a few rocks stacked up and leaning against the back wall is not going to cause any problems without an impact.

Thanks. That's what I've heard before and been under the assumption is true. I just get freaked out every so often that I'm going to come home to a large puddle instead of my tank. Thanks!
