I would take the rock out and soak in 50/50 solution until the rock were clean. It's going to take a lot of phosphate and time to remove all that alage. Imo, if you don't address the problem from the start. You never seem to get rid of it. I would start fresh, since you have nothing in the tank.

What are your nitrate and phos readings?
Erik
Both read 0, however Phos is hard to test for when you have an outbreak like this. From the research I have done, the phos gets absorbed right away from the algea so it will always read 0.

Lights have been turned off to the main tank now for a couple of days. I might even try to hang a blanket or something over it as there are two big basement windows accross from the tnak in the tank room and give it daylight all day.

As far as the water flow, I can't imagine having another Tunze in there. The one I have now is turned all the way down. If I turn it up even a slight bit, I get a pretty good sand storm. Then my skimmer will only collect mud.

Thanks, but how many times would I have to do this. The rock was clean going in. If I clean it again, it will just come back.

I hate to tell you, but did not do it good enough. Since your not adding food. The alage is being fed from the rocks. I have gone threw this. It's far easier to do this when nothing is in the tank. Running phosban is a long expensive process. It will take a lot of phosban to solve your problem.
