Dropped a screw into my tank - Should I worry?

I dropped a screw into my tank when mounting a moon light on my hood.... tank is 180 gallons + 40 gallons sump + 29 refugium.

I could not find the screw and the only hope would be to tear the whole tank apart. (3 year old tank)

Should I do this or not worry about it?

Dave

What kind of screw? Brass? Galvinized? Stainless?
Myself, I would rip it apart to get it out. Is it magnetic? Use your Mag-Float to grab it.

Standard wood screw... not really sure galvinized stainless etc (probably stainless, but that's just a guess).

AS long as it isnt brass or similar......i would try to get it out but certainly not break the tank down to get it. Unless it is high grade stainless which I doubt, it will rust and will most likely show its face eventually by a discolored area fo sand and you can remove it then

If its stainless then the magnet isnt going to help any, but those strong telescoping magnets are fairly cheap and good to have around anyway and it wouldnt be a bad idea to pick one up and try to fish it out

go down to harbor freight tools or Home depto, Lowes...whatever. They all will have something.

look like this. Like i said, it may not even work on your screw, but they work great when you drop many screws working on stuff

A magnet will work on stainless steel as long as it is not Austenitic stainless steel.
