I woul skip on getting Live rock or sand since you might have to treat fish. Certain chemicals thet you could ude would only destroy the two. Plus when you have to get the fish out the rock wil be in the way.
A filter, heater and maybe a piece of PVC pipe is all you will need.

Most fish don't need a light in a Q tank. I only run the light in my Q tank while I'm feeding. Ambiant light in the room is enough for new fish. It can also make them feel more secure. No sand or rock, just some PVC for hiding. I have a ten gallon. I take 5 gallons out every week, clean the tank out in the sink, and replace the 5 gallons. Works quite well. Glad to see you using the quarantine process. A good husbandry practice!

Heater and thermometer are useful. I'd throw in a couple 2 inch PVC T-fittings for hiding spots. Makes the fish a bit more secure.

no lR or Sand. I use cheap decor. and a small pvc with holes drilled in it. heater, sponge filter. good practice. I learned the hard way.

Here is a thread I started about my QT tank. There are some good links in there too to read.

I agree: filter, heater, and something teh fish can use for covor like cheap plastic plants or PVC pipe. Remember, QTs have to process waste just like any other tank, so lots of people (like me) let a filter sit for a week or two in a sump and then use it in the QT. It will let the bacteria have a head start.
