I would ask that those who don’t have a skimmer to show your support by not flushing your toilet for the 24 hour period.

Glad you are on the other coast. I should (maybe) be out of the blast radius....

I dont think you should light a fire under your tank only because it might set off the methane from Original-reefland.

Anyway, I suggest instead of turning of skimmers. We go to the offices of the powerplant, duct tape the windows and doors and fill er up from a garden hose. Then chuck in some live rock and a few "nemos." Then we can apply to the Guiness Book of world records for largest tank.

THEN we can go to FearFactor and see if they can get someone to drink all the skimmate we made that day. Mmm frothy.

I think the nay sayers work for Big and Oily!

This is a great Idea, anyone who owns a reef and cares about the worlds reefs should do this. Why wouldnt you? It isnt that big of a deal and like Melev said something has to be done.

Although if you really want to do something that will impact power useage without jeapordizing the health of your tank, try switching all of the light bulbs in your house to PC's, turn off your computer for a whole day, most have 400watt power supplies!!

Wash your clothes with Cold water, use Tide cold water detergent, works great.

If you own a home and are in the sun belt, get yourself retrofited with solar power.

I think I'll put a power turbine in my tank. This way I can generate electricity and pay for for the electricity used by my MHs and skimmer. Maybe I'll even add ANOTHER pump and generate even MORE energy! I could probably sell some back to the electric company. I'm gonna be rich! I can start that 8000g tank I've always wanted and not go bankrupt!!!! Yeah! Its amazing no one has discovered this get rich quick scheme already!

Can we get a moderator to delete that post. This guy is trying to give away trade secrets. Next thing you know he will be busting out that water powered car again.

Just because we are in the reef hobby, why do we have to turn off our skimmers? There are other things that can be turned off.(although I think this whole idea is meaningless).
