In most cases, it should drop on its own. If any animals are having trouble, water changes are the only reasonably safe way to lower alkalinity. Dosing a mineral acid, like hydrochloric acid, will work, but an overdose would be dangerous, and handling the acid is dangerous, too.

11.6 dkh is arguably a tad high side but ok. My system runs at between 4.0and 4.3 meq/l. Just about where you are.
