wait for the g3 version, at that point the g2 price will plummet and you probably want the g3 anyways, UMTS is capable of ~ 7MBPS

don't unlock it, Steve jobs will probably send an "upgrade" through iTunes which will require verification through the AT&T network which will effectively disable phones not on the contracted network.. if you crack the G3, there will be no other UMTS network to go to

You can try the apple refurbished store online. They usually have $100 off of the retail prices, and the refurbs are very high quality some look brand new!

What features are you looking for in your phone? The only problem I could foresee with the Iphone is that the memory is not expandable.

If you're looking to keep movies and music on the phone, then it woudl be better to get the new Ipod Touch with 16G of memory (compared to 8G on the Iphone).

Then you can get a separate phone with the features specifically for phones/Smartphones that you want/need.

Either way, good luck with your search.

Isn't the whole point of the iphone is to have an ipod touch and phone integrated into one unit? Getting an ipod touch And a phone would defeat that purpose.
I'm looking to get one for the wife and want to get it hacked as well. I'm just waiting off a bit to make sure the hacks out there dont have any problems.
When are the g3 versions coming out anyways?

bsk- The idea/marketing is to integrate into one system, but like I said, memory could become a problem since the Iphone is not expandable. If you have 7G of memory used for music/videos/etc, then you'll only have 1G left for your phone use such as contacts, ringtones, etc.

If you have separate units, you'll have more than enough memory and will probably have better usable features since you're using each item that fits your needs.

I love my Iphone. It sucks that they dropped the price 20 days after i bought mine but hey i still get $100 to use at apple.

The biggest problem i've experienced is my friends can never get thru to me. They always tell me it goes straight to vm. idk if thats AT&T or the phone but it kinda sucks.

Yeah, I was with Cingular for 6 years until I switched to Tmobil last year. I've been wanting to switch back after about a week with T-mobil.

I'm not sure if this applies to the Iphone but if you need your phone unlocked you can call your carrier and tell them you are traveling out of country and need it unlocked and they will do it for you.

Yes Iphone can be unlock and yes you can use it with Tmobile, but the only problem is you can not use any feature of the Iphone with Tmobile. You can only use it as a regular phone, that mean no internet no itune online, so what is the point of getting Iphone then??

no contract violation. you dont have to sign up for ATT when you buy the phone. only when you activate it, and instead of activating it with att you can unlock it and use T-Moblile.

and that 5 year contract is between Apple and AT&T for selling rights.

I don't think using the unlock iphone would violate any contract, I think apple wants people to unlock and use their iphone with other company. Apple would make more money this way.

Beside they didn't break the contract with ATT.
