metal part on genx 4100 pump ?

I bought 2 genx 4100 pumps for my skimmer and while playing with the pump, the back cover fell off and I was surprise to see a large metal sheet/piece behind there. There also evidence of rusting.

So is this mean I can't use it in the sump ? any of you notice this metal sheet inside the back cover ?

Thanks

I took mine off and threw it away. It's suppose to be a heat shield for the pump.

The genx pumps seems to rust in the back area with the exposed metal. I did caulk mine with epoxy. fixed the problem.
