Thanks, Dave! My lovely bride is so cool. "Andy, there's a big, hairy spider on the bathmat if you want to go take a picture of it."

Thanks! I'm in-between tanks right now and trying to improve my macro skills 'til the new one's built. There's lots of spiders out when it warms up, but I haven't seen any insects at all. So, I've been specializing in spider photos.

Sounds like a nice big tank (from reading your sig). I'm looking at around 400 gals. for my next tank. What I'm planning is a 12' x 2' x 2' that then Ls around a corner for another 4' (on the long side) room divider, to go along with a big house remodel. We've finally finished our fights with the city, so now we're supposed to break ground after the holidays.
So, we'll see. I lost most of my livestock in the move and then had six months of fighting with the city before they backed down, so the whole thing's been pretty bitter so far.

Go figure. We got the "new" employee at the planning department and her first three projects (so far) have all turned into huge fights. All of which the city has backed down on, eventually, because all three have been reasonable projects. At one point in trying to defend her, her boss even said, "There are 400 pages of city code and they're really hard to read."
Anyway, sure. As soon as there's something other than a drawing on paper I'll start a thread for sure.

I found another spider in the bathroom this morning. This one was inside the tub, so I had to lay inside the tub with my legs up and dangling over the side.
This one was set to about three times life size.

I think the picture of you may have been more fun to see than the one of the spider! LOL.
Cool looking spider, hairy legs and all. Any chance of getting more depth of field? Or are you limited on that?

Phyl--I wish I had a photo of it. I sure felt pretty silly, and trying to get my eye down to the view finder was sure a pain.
That one was at f/16. I could go down to f/32 and probably should of for that one. There's just not a whole lot of depth of field to work with at that magnification. Here's the spider at 1x. You can see that a little more is in focus, but the front and rear legs are still out-of-focus. Of course, I could line up the shot from right above and get the whole spider, but I prefer it to be a portrait for the drama. Thanks! oct2274--We're in a rent house while we're working on a remodel, so it's pretty much sealed up the way you'd expect for a rent house. That and I think the last time they did any weather proofing was in the 1880s when it was built. I think it would be cheaper to throw cash at the snow rather than run the furnace in this house, but it _is_ right next door so we can keep an eye on the builder. (What a nightmare it must be to work for us! ) Thanks!
