Need overflow box advise

My friend is setting up a 7x2x2 acrylic tank and want to know if 1 left corner overflow is good enough or 1 center trap. overflow box.

Thanks

It really depends on the rate of your pump. The max flow rate for 1" return is around 650 gpm; due to resistance, kinks, clogs, ect... the return rate is less than that. I would go for around 1.5" for safety

I like 1 left and 1 right corner overflow box.

Just a point of clarification, when I said return, I meant from the return from the overflow into the sump.

one is enough, i have excatly same size of tank with just one corner overflow. however, if i get to redo it again, i would do center over flow so the power heads on both left and right can push the water to the center without doing the tornado thing and blow bubbles every once awhile. Also you have wider view on both left and right sides...i'm only talking about if it's built in overflow instead of the hang on overflow tho.

the center box has more overflow area\sides then a corner box. The size matters (like always) as does the bulkhead\pipe size.

IME, flow isn't all that big a deal with return..5-10x tank volume is more then enough.

Mark,

my friend doesn't like the overflow box in the center taking too much space, but I told him that a corner overflow is not enough for his size tank.

the center trap overflow is big, but when he wants to put in a wb it'll be a quieter setup. convince him to go 30" instead of 24 and it'll offset that dif (unless of course he has it already)
