20L lighting question
howdy everyone,
so ive decided that it was about time i started a new tank i was thinking a 20 gallon long or a 10 gallon that i have sitting in my room. i know that i want MH so i was looking online and figured id get a 150 watt pendant, i do want to keep sps for shure. now, the question is: will one 150 watt MH pendant be enough for a 20 long or will the edges of the tank suffer? if anything ill just stick with the 10 but i would relly like a 20L thanks, victor

get a good reflector and you should be fine.

you may have a 3 inch zone on each end that wont get the best lighting, but this makes for a good place to put zoanthids or LPS corals. i plan to do exactly what your doing, 20L with a 150W halide. i will have my overflow on one end, so that will take up some room.

i say that because alot of people say each halide will light a 24"x24" area and the tank is 30 inches long, so if centered, you have 3 inches on each end that are not covered. though with a good reflector, im sure these small zones are eliminated.

I'm thinking of a 20 long myself. I have two Coralife 150w HQIs, but it's an abrupt change when they come off and on. I would like supplemental lighting for dawn/dusk and for actinics as well.

tests as of 1/04/08 Ca>480ppm, I'm bringing it down dKH=9, ok PO4=0ppm, ideal 1/06/08 after a water change Ca= 480ppm, still a little high pH= 8.2, I'd like it at 8.3 NO3= 10ppm, acceptable |
