Chief, here are some ebay item numbers. some are buy now and some are auctions. This is the same modle that I have and am quite happy with it. Doesnt have all the bells and whistles but you really dont need them IMO. Hope this helps.

320200083298

120202138375

230205561387

120200916204

120202363449

so far all are under 30 bux less s+h which is between 8-10 bux. Still cheaper than say Foster & Smith. Good luck!

Yeah I saw that too. a guy can always take the foam padding out and buy a cheap plano box at a tackle shop if he wanted a hard case. Still cheaper in the long run. but it would be nice if it came with a hard case.

I just received mine today - I love it! It was very easy to hook up. I'll have pictures in my build thread sometime tomorrow. Right now, though, I'm running about 5 gallons through it to remove any preservatives that may come with a brand new unit.

Glad to help chief. I promise you you will not be disappointed. Just for shagrins, when you get your refractometer and have it calibrated check it aginst the swingarm and post the results. Both my swing arms were off by at least .005.

Yea. I'm really curious how well that swing arm works. Watch it be right on the money knowing my luck. Even if, I think this other unit will be a lot easier and less messy.

Pretty much. Mine has a blue handle and most of the ones I sent item #s for had a black handle. Just completed another comparison between swing arms and refractometers. My coralife deep six is reading 1.020. my refractometer is reading 1.026. BIG DIFFERENCE!!!!!!!

I guess I'll have to sweet talk my accountant into approving a purchase order on one of those ebay units posted earlier. Thanks for the links.

what are these alien things?

They're about the size in circumference to a pencil eraser. Bright neon green, especially under blue LED at night, and they don't have stalks like a zoa.

Those 'alien things' look like zoanthids! You're picture's a little blurry, but it looks like this:

So. All Zoanthids don't necessarily have stalks. Also I was wondering about LR placement. Do you sit your LR directly on the sand bed or do you put it up on some PVC so that water can flow underneath too?

I put all mine directly on the sand. Some people use little acrylic rods to prop the rock up, but I don't go through that trouble.

Chief, havent heard much from you in a while. Did you get your refractometer and if so how do you like it. How's the tank coming?

Sorry about that. It has been bus lately.

I got the refractometer. I like it! It's less of a mess then the swing arm type. I compared it to the swing arm and there wasn't a big difference; I'm guessing about 1/100ths off. Still, it's better with the refract.

My brown algae came back. Just so happens that it coincided with the use of distilled water instead of me using my LWS. I get my RO/DI today, so I will let you guys in on that.

I'm thinking about driving down to Virginia Beach this weekend and buying some LR from a place called Animal Jungle. I really need some more stuff in this tank.

I hear you about being busy, I have been trying to get things stocked in my 55 but every time I have a day off the babysitter is sick, one of the kids are sick, I have no money left cuz something reared its ugly head..................... LOL. What do you do?

Glad to hear you like the refractometer. I'll never go back to swingarm unless I absolutly have to.

As far as the brown alge goes thats a stumper. I'm wondering if there are silicates or chloramine in it. You wouldnt think so with distilled but who knows. The ro/di should help alot though with that problem. I would reccomend checking with your water treatment facility to see if they are using chloramine to purify the water. If so you may need to add another stage for catalytic carbon to remove this. A straight ro/di will not remove chloramine. Chloramine is (simplified) chlorine bound with ammonia. Letting ro/di sit awhile will disipate the chlorine but the ammonia remains and when added to your tank will cause a cycle and viola you have an alge bloom albiet a small one. Just something to concider.

I think I need to add some more LR to my tank too. I make all my rock and as I've mentioned when I have a chance to make some, something always comes up. For example today I was going to work on the tank alittle but mother nature decided to let it snow so I have 4 driveways to plow and on top of that the babysitter is sick....AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH! Double Whammy! Oh well grin and bear it.

Hope to see some pix soon.

Great news! I got my Spectrapure RODI in today. Went out and bought a trash can for the water and some other stuff to make these water changes right and easy. You're not gonna believe where I have this set up (at least for now) so I will post pictures tomorrow.

The RODI is working like a champ. Had a minor leak to the 2nd stage, but I was able to fix it with teflon thread.
