odd

For some reason that 3-4 day old thread showing work I preform at Aquatic tech was removed do to a commercial relationship? I just don't get the over moderation of our local club forum. That thread had nothing to do with buying or selling at Aquatic tech. It just showed some work I did, but the Moderators found it Commercial.
I just don't get the over moderation.

And someone like Paul, neongoby, who has been a member of c-sea for a long time, what 15 years? and a member of reefcentral for 4-5 years but doesn't have his 50 posts telling people "attaboy your tank looks nice" Why does his forsale threads get removed. I just don't get the over moderation of a club forum.

Just ranting,
Erik

Hi Erik,

I guess it all depends how the moderator views the post! There is a fine line(I don't know where it is) on what some moderators determine to be a "commercial relationship". I saw your post & I did not think that your were pushing Greg's store or your own business. Maybe since the original post came from you thats why it was removed. If it would of come from me maybe it would have not been pulled because I don't have a business relationship with you or AT. Geo, chime in hear and give of the straight talk on what is going on. Just my 2c worth.

i agree. this is the most uptight forum i have ever been on. i used to read all the different forums and try to learn and help other people, but now if it were not for this group and keeping in touch with local people, i would not even come to reef central at all anymore.

In the coral propogation forum they have cracked down on people posting "look at my tank" threads as commercial advertising. I can only guess that sponsors are complaining about people covertly pushing non-sponsor vendors. I've seen some people who talk up certain vendors on every single thread they can somehow squeeze a comment into.

Hello all,

The club forums are for the most part very loosely moderated. Typically when actions are taken, it is either due to a reported post or someone drawing attention to themselves or a particular club forum. Eric’s business relationship with Aquatic Technology is enough to warrant the thread in question being removed. Had someone not associated with Greg’s company could have posted “Hey, look what Kreeger has been up to” and that would have been okay. Kind of like Shawn not being able to talk about the corals Salty Critter but John can, as John has no known affiliation with the company.

Paul’s selling thread being edited is again just a matter of policy. Many people join this site to use the forums as their own personal Craig’s list. Enough abuse took (takes) place that there was a 50 posts and 90 days as a member in order to post in any of the selling forums or list anything for sale or trade in the club forums. This ensures the people using the forums to conduct sales are also actually contributing to the web site and not some clown who just signs up to make a quick buck. It is unfortunate that Paul fell in the this less than 50 category but the rules are enforced as evenly as we possibly can.

IMO, thats a far stretch me doing Construction there and me promoting his store. Sort of like work I did att McDonalds, doesn't mean I would say go out and by a big mac its hey look what I did here.
After the job ended I am no longer affiliated with A.T. As I'm sure if a former fish store employee wanted to post about stuff that store got in they could without being thread closed.
I am by no means affiliated with Aquatic technology, I just did a job for him through my company Kreeger Holmes. I never worked for him, just did a job for him.
Oh well, just a little much IMO
Erik
And yes I do understand what a pain it could be to moderate a message board as big as reef central.
