adding diy rock but not as filter?

i know there are a lot of threads about DIY rock BUT i want to build a structure (mostly out of pvc nd egg crate and covered in DIY rock mix (sand+concrete) and take my current 55lbs and put it ALL in my sump which is full of bacteria and is being currently used. would i have to cure the DIY rock or just get it sitting long enough to not mess around with the PH of my water? how long would that probably take?

i'm pretty sure you need to cure it in fresh water for months doing frequent water changes in order to get the ph down. i think some people soak it in muriatic acid for a short period of time to speed this along. but i've never done it so i'm just remembering what i've read.

Curing man made rock is necessary to prevent ultra high ph from leaching into your tank (from the portland cement), not because of a cycle. But yes, you will have to soak it fresh water for at least a month to keep the ph from nuking your tank!

Some people put it in their toilet tank for a few weeks. Easy water changes

I did the man made rock thing, abot 100 Lbs worth. I put it all in my display, and not 1 year later you cant even teel it is man made. I saved a bunch of money by using cement.
