cleaning toxic reef sand
i had some old sand chilling in a bucket for about a week it is quite rancid i was going to clean it in a 30 gallon tub with fresh water from the hose bad idea and if so what would be a better method? should i just let it cycle in my new tank?
thanks |

if it smells bad.. i'd boil it.. and rinse it.. you could then reuse it. It wouldn't be live any longer though.. LOL

the sand is going into a 90 gallon that i havent set up but once its cycled through im transfering my 30 gallon reef into the 90. so if i rinse the sand throughly(created dead sand) and then add my live sand from my well established tank after a month or two it should be fine?
