May I just ask which is better Mangrove or Chatoemorph

For excess nutrient export

Chatoemorph would be better. There have been other posts, and if I am not mistaken a study, that mangroves are fairly poor choice for nutrient export -- the are slow at it.

chaeto is much hardier than mangroves. It does a good job...what I would do is Cheato in a fuge with a 6" or so DSB..that will get your trates down to zero, or close to it...remember it takes a little time for both to get established.

If you want to get real economical, if you are running halides, pick up a cpr backpack fuge, stuff it with some sand or miracle mud for a small base, then stuff cheato in it and let the excess light from the halides do the lighting for you. Works great for me.

Chaeto rules not only does it do a better job but when it needs harvesting you can trade it in at some LFS. Tried the rest chatos the best.

I bought some off ebay just to try them. That was 6 months ago. They grew only an inch. I don't think they do much.

Lucky;
I had a 7'' ball given to me a few years ago
it did not grow at all,
it is not the size of about a lonnie and i cant seem to get it to grow

Pmolan are you talking about mangrove or chato and Twz same question.I grow a 7" ball easily every week, 1 month harvest a 6"x14"bag of chato

Im talking about cheato
i can get it to grow at all
i dont know if its lighting or not
i had a fluorescent grow bulb on my sump my mangroves were doing wicked
but still no luck with the cheato
i just put on two 20 000k 20W bulbs and still no luck,
so im not sure what to do now...

My fuge has 2 39w T5's and the bulbs are my displays used 10month bulbs I rotate them every 2 to 3 months on the fuge

Both lol cheto is great but it can get into pumps and ect. mangroves dont do much ,,,but sometimes thats a good thing
