I'm a big fan of this move. It's far better than the absolute BS shows that they used to play when it used to switch to "The N" after 6 PM.

Man how true this thread hit home. I sing franklin all the time.
I also when I get home at night, and my daughter is in bed. I will sit there and watch WOW WOW Wubsi for no reason what so ever. My wife will say "You don't have to watch that she's sleeping". Then it hits you. Your so right. That channel is crack for kids. =0) good thread Marc

I ran past the channel last night and Oobi was on, and I left it on for awhile before I realized no one was awake but me! For Debi and non-noggin people, Oobi is a talking hand in a family land of talking hands!
Ah, it's good to have those shows on for when the kids wake in the middle of the night, and you're trying to keep them quiet so they don't wake the rest of the house. No naps for my kids are good! Even though they sometimes have meltdowns during the afternoon, I find if they take naps it's enough to recharge their batteries that they are in for the long haul and mom and dad are exhausted by the time they give in!

i honestly don't know how you parents do it. our friends will bring their almost-3 year old granddaughter out to visit. of course, they have to turn the t.v. to the cartoon channel to pacify the little darling. we're talkin' like 46" of spongebob squareshirt. or is it pants? sound on full blast. after about 30 seconds of it, i'm ready to blow my brains out.
i don't remember john being really "into" t.v. when he was a toddler shutupdinowedidhavet.v.inthestoneages. he was more into music so we played the stereo a lot. sound on full blast.

We were just having that discussion with our kids last night! We didn't have cable when hubby and I grew up, we got 3 channels if we were lucky. You had to get up and turn the dial. You had to stand at the telephone to talk, because the cord wouldn't stretch that far. If you wanted to play video games, you had to go to the pizza place or the strip mall to play the big Atari games. There was no computer, let alone Internet and you actually either had to call your friends or send a letter. Remember getting in trouble for passing notes? Now they text each other! The whole idea of the conversation was "GET OFF THE COUCH AND HELP!" or "GO OUTSIDE AND PLAY!"
I think we got in the habit of keeping kids shows on the most after 9-11. It was on every channel and one day our son who was 3 asked why those building fell down on TV, and what are all those people running from. We realized that he was observing what was on and thought it better for the kids not to see all the bad things that are always on.

I try to tivo most of the shows my daughter likes. Then when their done it stops, rather than going into another show. That way she doesnt try to sit in front of the tv too long.
Right now she is stuck on the movie Babys Day Out. I've seen it about 5 time already in the past week!!! |
