i cant take it anymore!
What do you guys do to hold your rock work in place? I redid my rockwork a few months ago and used epoxy thinking that it would hold. Every time i stick my hand in the tank to do something it moves. i went in to pick a little hair algae out of the sand and lightly bumped the rock that had my clam on it. That whole side of the rock wall that i had built fell and every one knows that you can never get it back the way you had it. I am about ready to take all of my corals out and put them in a tub then just drop all the rocks in the tank and where ever they land they land. I am about ready to give up with the rocks all together.

Ever try the carbon rod through the rock approach?

i really dont want to have to drill holes in the rocks. If that is the way it is going to have to be i guess i dont have a choice.

I'm sometimes surprised that my rock wall doesn't come tumbling down. I made sure I didn't just place the rock on sand--I planted rock under the sand to support the wall, otherwise when the sand shifted, I'd be in big trouble. I have been lucky enough to have come across a ton of rubble & hafe filled every hole with it, just like puzzle pieces, so everything is interlocked together. Rarely does any rock come tumbling down off my wall, nor do I lose corals fallen into the cracks--they are all filled with rock. Not necessarily the "open" look many perfer but it works for the amount of corals I love to keep. You are welcome to stop by & check it out.

I try to put holes between the rocks for the fish to swim through. Especially for my hawk. He likes to perch in the holes. Where can i find the rods for the rocks?

Reef putty. WHite and nasty at first, but corallines over, can be removed: put a ball between 2 rocks at contact point, lower rock atop, and as it hardens it forms a 'socket' that helps hold rock. For a particularly 'tippy' rock you may need more than one 'socket' but it will hold, even against a big urchin.

Believe me, there are plenty of holes for the fish to swim thru. I also have 2 hawks. All my fish are about their size though & they have all sorts of space behind the rock too. I'm amazed at the many pathways they take in & out of the "wall".

I used fiberglass rods from the driveway markers at Menards. Use a little super glue and you have a very solid rock structure.
