Angry tank rim snapped a few minutes ago

greetings, my sump is made out of a 30g AGA tank. just a few minutes ago I heard a snap, and it looks like a plastic rim that goes around the top of the sump's tank broke in the middle of the one of the long sides. I've checked the siliconed baffles and seams on the corners they look ok. should I be worried? what could've caused the plastic to snap?

That plastic doesnt really add any structure to a tank that size, as long as it is not a middle brace, I cant imagine any problem from that, however that it broke would be a concern, but i have seen tanks with sections of that plastic cut out (for external overflows), so other than figuring out what cause the break, I wouldn't be to concerned.

The heat from the light over time may have weakend the plastic. Just a guess.

Yep, that was one of my guesses, the other was an act of God

shall I attempt to glue it back together, or just let it be?

You should be able to order a new one from AGA. Just replace the whole thing.

Those things are not one of those just remove and replace. It is not worth the time to remove that and replace it.

Get a spirit level and be sure it is level on all sides. If you detect stress or dip, see if you can wedge in a very small shim.

Most acrylic tanks begin to bow a bit: the overall heat of the water and action of the lights will do it. Just a little is not a problem, iME.
