Thumbs up

I love it. I got about half way through all the pictures and just had to say I love it. It looks so clean. I have a DSB and like that for me but I love seeing other ideas and other tanks. I love the clean look. Those must be the happiest clown fish in the world. I like your low bioload idea. Much like in nature.

Thanks Randy.

PS> I've added some more fish and a couple more corals too. Guess it's time to break out the camera again.

Greg,
I want the sump to act as a refugium in the center portion and as a sump to supply a MRC protein skimmer, calcium reactor and possibly a UV. As I understand the baffles are to dirrect flow and to prevent microbubbbles from the skimmer from entering the main tank. I know the basic pattern of baffles I want but am unsure of heights as they relates to the main aquarium and overflow in the case of power/pump failure. A settling component may be counterproductive in an algae refugium.
I'm planning water to enter the first chamber from above, flows through holes in the first baffle places ~3/4 from bottom. The water then goes through alae refugium. The next baffle has the water flow over it and the closely placed next baffle has the water going under it and being drawn from the sump there, back to the main tank. Thanks again, Gerard

Gerard,

When you design a sump, you have to take in the consideration of how much space you have under your tank. Each in-sump skimmer is designed to sit in a specific height of water. If your baffles are too tall, the skimmer will need to be put on a stand to set it at the mfg's recommended water level. Now you have to figure out if your skimmer and stand will fit under your tank and still give you access to the collection cup.

The refugium should be taller so that there is room for the plants to grow, plus you'd want your water flow to run more slowly through that zone. Feel free to check out this series of webpages to give you more ideas.

Greg,

How did the tank weather Francis?

I hope all is well.

Not too badly. Much better than a lot in the area. No major problems.

I hope everything is ok. Did you lose power? Were there any minor problems with the tank as a result of the strorm?

Oh yeah, lets see some pics of the new fish and corals. What are the new specimens?

Thanks
Will

Greg, what were your methods that you employed to protect your tank?

I lost power - but not for very long. My chiller is outside and the GFCI circuit tripped. I didn't notice and the water temp got a bit high for a couple days. That's really the only problem the tank experienced.

I'll get back to you on the pics and such when I have more time.

Unfortunately, I'm stil catching up from Frances and Ivan is on his way. I don't think I'm going to be able to make it to MACNA.

To answer your question seriously though, I have a generator and enough fuel to last me a few days at least. The generator is big enough to run the whole tank, but I would only run the return pump during an outage.

Dang it! I was sure you'd get RC back up and come hang out with us in Boston for a few days.

Ivan's gonna hit Cuba... you're safe. Come party with us! :celeb:

I wouldn't get too excited yet. The latest tracking I saw shows it going over Cuba and then hitting Florida again.

Greg- Are you affiliated with Key's Critters? I noticed their URL was a subordinate of yours, so i thought i'd ask instead of poking around in other ways. If it is your company, i hope the recent weather was as merciful there as it was at your home.

No, I'm not affiliated with them. I host a bunch of websites on my server.

There's a whole lot of colletors and wholesalers that are in the direct path of this thing. The keys are now under an evac order.

Yeah, i have an ex girlfriend evacuating as we type. Mother Nature seems to have a serious redecorating plan for that area.

Man, you really wanted an answer, didn'tcha?

We actually have a guy in our club (DFWMAS or DFWMAS.com if you like) that has one, and it was a real issue getting a tank builder to make one to his specifications. One guy ripped hiim off for a few thousand dollars, another built the tank but it cracked and leaked through the base, and then finally someone built one that should be still running as far as I know.

Try starting a new thread in this forum and I'm sure you'll get some feedback.

Greg, what's the latest in Florida now? I heard ORA is okay, and ORCA was at MACNA.

Ivan is still out to sea. The forecast looks good, but there's still a chance.... I spent the weekend getting the house boarded up. So next storm will be a matter of just hanging the plywood.... Oh what fun!
