my pink cynarina. This is it's 2nd night in the tank. It was getting "happy" with my cold cathode ray tube moonlight and I took the shot with just actinics on.

I color enhanced it just a little to show what it looks like to the naked eye.

scolys when they first come in can be a little bleached out and look pink...once they color up...they usually become a light red or deep orange. all 5 of my red/orange scoly's came like this and colored up nicely after it settled down.

i have not seen a true pink scoly yet (but who the heck am i anyway!) but there are a lot of cynaria's (yeah, i know i always spell them incorrectly and have since given up trying to spell them right) that are a true pink and are absolutely gorgeous.

i found that if i see a coral that i really like but hem and haw on it...only to go back the next day or so to get it onl to find it not there anymore...it sucks, needless to say!

if you like it...why not give it a go? remember they like slow to moderate flow and not too intense lighting! that is why i have all of mine on the sand!

My latest score from the LFS. A 6" cynarina in orange. You can also see my red scolymia in the background.

Hey, I've got the same size green scoly. I missed out on that pinkish red scoly. I'm so bumbed out

Ohh well, time to move on - you've got some cool looking scoly's bro.

Especially the red one's.

Diggin' up this thread!

Was doing a search on some new corals that I adopted w/the purchase of a 120G. Some people have said Scolymia and I say Cynarina for both. What do y'all think? Oh, and it seems that these might be fairly valuable? Like I said, they came with the tank. I have no intention of selling the 1st, as it's easily my new favorite coral.

2nd one under light:

2nd one 'at night':

Thanks for the ID - I thought they were both Cynarina =D

Lighting - That's a good question that I'm not sure on. When I got my two Cynarina they were in a metal halide set-up w/6.67 watts/gallon. My set-up is also metal halides and has over 9 watts/gallon. The first Cynarina sits a little over half-way up on a rock and is seemingly great, and that's where it was situated before. The second Cynarina is on the ground, as that's where it was before I got it as well. Neither have been in my set-up for that long though, so I cannot really say if they like their placements long-term.

As far as flow is concerned, I read they don't care for too much flow, so neither is in any high flow spot.

Btw - how is it that these guys reproduce?
