Day 11 Lights Continued
Amazingly I was still able to lift the canopy by myself and place it on the tank. Finally finished and now it's time for a beer or three. Total time for this project was six hours including the trip to ACE hardware and a quick lunch. Next project FANS!!!

I noticed a typo when discussing troubleshooting. The statement should be:
Now came some trouble shooting. Since I checked the wiring twice before I finished I was thinking it was a defective bulb. When observing the bulbs as soon as I plugged in the ballast I noticed all but one bulb would "NOT" come on before shutting down.

I used 1/2 " cable clamps I purchased from Ace Hardware. They were right next to the loom tubing. I used a #8 by 5/8" wood screws to fasten them but #9s would of been better.
I also used electrical tape every 3 or 4 inches to hold the loom tubing closed

Day 14
Ok although I said the next project was fans I still have not received them so I am moving on. I ordered the Live Rock this morning. I got 115 lb of Kaeleni from Premium Aquatics. It should go out tomorrow so I have a lot of stuff to finish today. First thing today was to install an auto top off. I picked up two 15 gallon square polyethylene tanks and one will be used for the top off reservoir. The first thing to do was to install the float valve in the fuge. First of course I needed to drill a hole in my fuge. Then I installed the float valve in the sump area. I needed to make sure I had clearance to remove the pump in the future. I installed a short piece of ¼ “ hose and a ball valve. Since I have my study in the room behind the tank I decided to use it for the reservoir. I ran a hose through the wall and placed the reservoir so it was higher than the sump area. I then installed a float valve in the reservoir. This will be used when filling the reservoir from the RO/DI. Initially I will just connect a hose when needed to fill the reservoir (probably once a week) but I may run a permanent hose through the attic in the future. I will have to test it first. Using just gravity feed the system works fine.

Day 14 Continued
Next I installed the Aqua Controller Jr. Again I ran all the lines into the study and mounted the main control unit on the wall where I can easily see the status. I mounted the Direct Connect 8 high up on the stand and made sure I could access each connection from either side of the tank. After cleaning up all the wiring with wire ties and checking to make sure I had everything hooked up. I decided I was finished so I put the Aragonite in the tank. For the next 24 hours I will be filling the tank with water from the RO/DI

The bulbs used are the following: Front UVL Super Actinic - 430 UVL Aquablue - 660 UVL Aquasun - 600 ATI Blue Plus -660 UVL Aquablue - 660 ATI Blue Plus - 430 The six bulb kit is sold with these two ballasts. http://www.reefgeek.com/lighting/T5_...ulbs_by_IceCap

Day 15
With everything complete and the Live Rock ordered it's time to fill the tank. At this point I started adding salt and used the Hydor Koralias to circulate the water. The tank completed filling in 21 hours from the RO/DI. After I finished with the tank I moved the RO/DI hose to the top off reservoir. This will be a good opportunity to make sure the float valve works. When the reservoir is full I will turn the RO/DI unit off. I have no need to keep it connected. A final check and everything is working. I checked the auto top off again to make sure it was still working and let the top off reservoir reservoir fill up the remaining space. I programmed the Aqua Controller during the time I was waiting for the tank to fill. After looking at all the devices connected to the tank and what I wanted to do I decided to purchase another Direct Connect 8 which will now allow me to control up to 16 different devices. I now need to decide where to put it. Still waiting on my fans. Looks like I am going to make a trip to Fry's and use the fans I ordered somewhere else. I'll give until the weekend.

Nice tank!
The ACjr will only control 12 devices. You can add another DC8 but will be able to use only 4 of the outlets. You could also get a DC4 or DC4HD. |

Thanks for the info.
Their literature states to use another DC-8 and in fact says you can daisy chain more. Is this just a limitation to the jr.? If I had know I would have gotten the DC-4 and saved some money.

I just went to the Neptune site and confirmed you are right about only being able to use the DC-4 or DC-4HD. The vendor's info is wrong as it states the following.
- Up to 5 DC8s can be daisy chained together for up to 40 switched outlets. I probably only need four and the regular DC-4 would work. Hopefully I can get this changed. Good thing I used American Express.
