Yeah I know but my buddy was gonna just toss it so I took it and maybe the clown would take up residence! I just dont think he will make it in my 12g nano so I may try to find it a new home? I have stock lighting (48 watts)?

Its going to be very difficult in a tank that size and with that lighting, I'd say don't do it. Instead of tossing it, see if your LFS will take it for store credit. You also run the risk of it dying and killing whats in your tank with an ammonia spike, also the stress of watching it die. Sorry.
