anyone ever seen a female BTA spawn?

I think mine might be spawning and was wondering if anyone has seen this before? it's releasing hundreds of tiny little green/brown egg looking things?????

To be honest I'm not sure. I only researched because mine was doing the same thing. Unfortunately it got sucked up in my powerhead and killed. I think if you read the "anemone faqs" on the clownfish & anemone forum it may tell you. I think that might ahve been where I read about the spawning.

I skimmed the FAQ's quickly but I thought it only talked about male spawning.

should I do anything? Carbon?

Thanks Joe, what kind of player is needed to view that video?

Devin, I'm assuming female because it's releasing what appears to be eggs and not a cloud of sperm.

should I be concerned about the discharge fouling the tank water? Will this cause any problems?

thanks all

It was late after the lights should have gone out. Because we were taking pics and doing reef stuff (read drinking beer) The lighting cycle was over 18 hours with the last 3 cycling between Halides only At only etc ... then all of a sudden he just swelled up and started pumping out these egg sacks.
So I'm not sure if it was stress related because of the lighting?

FWIW, my BTA spawned about a year ago. I need to go back and check my records, but I think mine was a male. It would be WAY cool to get the two together.

Man Greg I agree however,
This happened over 2 years ago and I've had so many splits since then, I couldn't be sure which one it was.

BTA dating service? hehe

mine also did this shortly after lights out on an extended lighting night (read beer also) and I had just fed the BTA's. I also did 3 large (30-40% each, carefully)water changes over the last month. I checked and it was the no moon night.

Nothing seemed to eat the discharge, but all that is in that thank is a pair of maroon clowns and a kole tang.

Marco,
did the water cloud a bit when you saw this? I woke up in the AM and noticed a cloudy tank which made me get the flashlight and see the discharge. when I got home later all I saw was eggs? floating around and no cloudiness.

Marco also,,,
have you seen the same anemone split and spawn, or have you only seen individuals do one or the other??????

oh yea,

montec24,
I don't know that I'm right on this but I'm guessing the sex based on what is being discharged. As I understand it males release a white cloud of sperm like stuff, females release what looks like eggs. Mine released what looks like tiny eggs.

If anyone is interested in this topic, I got a response on the anemone forum that both "anemone" the moderator and sanjay have both had BTA's both split and spawn (I assume at different times).

thanks for all the responses

sorry for the "no response" on that ... I'm just catching up now.
In my case I had 2 at the time of the event (they were both doing it) and I have four now, I'm not sure if one split twice or each once ...etc ..
