Euro-reef CS6-2 pump upgrade

Hi,

My euro-reef isn't really impressing me with its output all that much anymore. Everything is clean and its still producing skimmate but I've heard that people are upgrading the pumps on them to get better output.

So my question is, what kind of pump can I upgrade to? Currently it has a Sedra 3500 on it. Can I upgrade to the Sedra 5000 another pump? Suggestions?

TIA
Christy

Theres a thread in the DIY forum called "GenX4100 meshwheel kicks butt". \

Basically, replace the impellar with mesh, and it'll pull almost twice the air.

The big Euroreef thread also has plenty of details on the mesh mod.

Ok I was just reading that thread, I got about halfway through before I started to nod off. Lets face it, I'm not a "DIY" type of girl

So back to the original question. I'd like to just spend the money and get a new pump.

Currently I'm running the Sedra 3500. How much can this skimmer handle? People have been talking about oceanrunner 3700 (900gph) and gen-x 4100 (1038gph). Seems like a pretty steep difference from the 300gph the sedra puts out.

Suggestions?

That is a 6" x 24" skimmer? The current ER model that is similar in dimension is a RS135. The RS uses a SP3 (modified Sedra 5000) with a new design ER Needlewheel that pulls a lot more air than the old ones. ER sells that pump for $125. Its would be a huge improvement over what you have now. If you decide to go that route, be sure to ask/specify that you want the SP3 with the new impeller.
