24G AquaPod w/ 150w MH no mayo introduction!

I'm a noob here guys, so I thought i'd formally introduce myself. I go to med school and live in North Chicago, have family in Streamwood, I'm 22 years old, and like long walks on the beach....

With that said here are some pics of my little ocean. Tank started back in April of 2007.

Ah the excitement of the boxes.

My test run followed by LR for curing.

This was my first scape final scape.

but... the tank crashed and looked like this after a month and a half, cause I was a freakin noob idiot.

After some cleanup and extensive research and with help of some awesome people it has let me to this.

Nice. How hot does it get with the halide running? I am thinking aobut a biocube 29 gal with a 70W halide.

I max out at around 82 degrees which isnt too bad. I have the heater set at 79. I have this fancy fan which has temp settings So if the room gets hotter than 72 the fan turns on and blows air at the tank and keep it at 79. When the room temp gets to 72 the fan turns off. Keeps the temp constant in the tank at 81 or so. I picked up the fan at target for like 60-70 bucks i forget. Looks nice and serves as a ghetto chiller.

So in conclusion, you just need to get a feel for your room temps during winter and summer and adjust accordingly. And therefore you defeat the need for a chiller. Or just skip on the fan throw in another 20 bucks or so and pick up a DIY chiller.

Med school is expensive, so ghetto is the way to go for me.

It's a great start. I have a sunpod 150 MH running over a BC29 tank (started with one and have two over it now). One thing I may suggest, the sunpod bulb is a 14,000k bulb which is a white light. I switched over to 20,000k bulbs and it shifts the color spectrum to blue and will render much more like you have an actinic bulb. I noticed a big favorable response from my ricordia and my zoos.

Yea i've been thinking bout switching to the 20k but I've read the 20k gives better color but less growth. At the other end a 10k will give more growth but less color. So i'm guessing my next bulb will be a 14k phoenix and then after that I might make the switch to 20k.

Do you run 20k's on both of your sunpods? Any pics?

Believe it or not but I somehow knew you'd be driving a S2000 (maybe because that's the only cool Honda out there.)

But what's with the shift_ thing? Isn't that Nissans's advertising campaign?

Haha. Actually back when I first purchased the car the 350z had just came out. It had been maybe a week or so since release and I went to maybe three Nissan dealerships to go look at them and take one out for a spin. I was treated like crap and they treated the 350z as if it was a ferrari. That left such a bad taste in my mouth that I vowed not to buy the Nissan. I'm actually very happy with my decision because a year later I got to drive a 350 and it really didnt do anything for me. So the name is a ploy on Nissans ad campaign.

Are you ever in the burbs north of the city? I would be interested in the firefish, but it's just too far to drive from Rockford.

Yeah, I remember when the 350 first came out. Some people did treat it like it was a Ferrari.

A friend of mine recently had a Lotus Elipse and bought a S2000 as a daily beater. He liked it so much that he sold the Lotus and now only drives the S2000.

BTW, in Shift_9k why 9k?
