Carbon Filter Question!

I started using the Chemi-pure Elite yesterday in my 12 gallon reef tank. My question is this: How often should this be replaced? I have been replacing them every 4-6 weeks. Whereas the directions on the label say it lasts 4-6 months. I jsut have a large bio-load for a small tank and my water/oil slick on top clears up instantly by replacing them frequently. Am I correct in this...or can I leave that carbon bag in there for 4 months? Thanks for you input...

It's a carbon resin with a GFO. There is no hard evidence that it needs to be replaced in 1 day let alone 6 months. So there isn't a real answer. However given the lack of evidence, treat it like Carbon and change monthly is a fair idea.

I agree. If the tank shows a phosphate problem, though, it might need more GFO or more frequent replacement.
