Mike,
Been reading your 'string' for five hours, all the way from page one. Even looked at your 'string' about your home tank. My eyes are burned out of their sockets and my arse is sore from sitting. All your trials, tribulations, pitfalls and stumbling block make me say it again - Son, you shoulda got a puppy.
Can't wait to see it though!
Dad

I got called several times about the cabinets yesterday so they should be up when I get to the offices today. I'll bring a camera!

Dudester & Friends -- sorry to hear about the troubles thus far. I'm sure it'll come around. Wish I lived in Austin, sounds like you've got a fantastic LFS going there.

I worked on the tank again today but couldn't find the camera (doh!). Another round of good news, bad news...

Good news:

*The tank looks much better
-less algae
-clearer water
-no more fish deaths
*The lower cabinet is installed
*Portable A/C unit has the tank running at 78

Bad news:

*The upper cabinet isn't installed (the one that allows access into the tank

Looking into the sump for the first time in several weeks was pretty interesting. Sediment accumulated EVERYWHERE and nassarius tracks were abundant. At this point, I'm not entirely sure where the nassarius snails are but possibly in the dart. The ROWA reactor was also running too slow and needed to be adjusted slightly.

Well, it's all in here. To summarize, elation --> excitement --> disappointment --> success --> improvement --> setback --> frustration --> death --> recovery --> renewed success --> termination. The thread has split once, but if you just scan the photos you'll get an idea of what I mean. I've learned a ton, and plan to implement what I've learned in the next tank setup, which will be a 60 x 30 x 26 rimless beauty.

ThomasKind - Austin has many merits to go along with some great LFS's, that's for sure.

Dad - I think this is against the law of Reef Central to be sharing a username, although it doesn't hurt my post count . I wonder if reading this is pushing you toward or away from getting a tank at your home in Florida?

John - It's great that things are balancing out now and showing signs of improvement. I'll be back in the office tomorrow and I'll give you a shout as to how things look. I'll also talk with the building managers about the lack of upper cabinetry.

Sorry guys, I've been busy and haven't been updating...

So... GOOD NEWS!!!

The tank is running perfectly with no real algae left, no more death, the addition of a juvenile melanarus wrasse (christmas), and we've even begun stocking the tank with a few tester SPS. Then I got an incredible Superman montipora colony that had to find its way into this tank.

Oh and we have cabinets!

Calcium reactor, ATO, and saltwater reservoir are all working and performing and the new PERMANANT A/C unit went in today.

The last couple of weeks have been fantastic for this tank and have really made me excited about it again. It was extremely rough going there for awhile (especially when you are helpless to fix the problem) but the tank has rebounded.

You all are far far far overdue for pictures and I promise that I'll do my best to get some. Mike can attest that I brought my camera out last time only to find that I forgot the battery

Thank you all for sticking with the thread and I'll get some pictures up for you soon.

John

Tomorrow my friends, I already have camera (and battery) in hand.

Ram,

What do you mean by "plumbing diagrams?" We didn't really come up with anything other than the hole placement before going out on site and doing the thing by feel.
