Way too tame

Disclaimer: Ho-hum mantis story alert

My b***h of a peacock, Scylla, showed me yesterday that she is just way too desensitized to my presence. My principal made me take all of my classroom pets home for the summer (bummer), so I transported the tank home yesterday. I put Scylla and her molly pal in a bucket that was filled more than half way with tank water. As I was refilling the tank and testing the parameters, Scylla became aware of my presence. She looked up at me and swam all the way to the water's surface, hovering vertically beneath me. It was almost liike a cat that sits at your feet and looks up at you, wanting attention. It was a bit frightening to be honest. I'm a little "gun shy" since her Evel Knevel stunt when I first got her. I was afraid she was going to try to jump out now that she'd seen me. Luckily, she didn't. She's just as mean as ever, striking at everything except her fish friend and the food I try to feed her. She hardly ever strikes the feeding stick anymore. She swims out and grabs it. If it doesn't come off easily, she'll jerk it off. She's quite strong.

Maybe she's just spoiled!!! Gotta love her!!
