|
Finally my clown!
Today my clown finally hosted my rose bubble tip anemone! Or vise versa. Either way it's about time.
So now I'm wondering do I still have to hand feed the anem or will the clown do all the work for me? |

How long did it take, and did it happen on it's own? Or did you use a trick?

no trick, I just came home today, saw something sticking out of my anem. I thought it ate one of my fish, so I ran to my tank in a bit of a panic, and saw that it was my clown looking happy as can be.
It took maybe 2 months. My clown never even gave my RBTA a second look. I guess it's one of those things that just happens. |

I'm hoping when I get my ocellaris into my new tank they will host SOMETHING. haha

Yeah even when i had my rbta in my tank my clown was trying to host my frogspawn, one of my chalices, even a colony of zoos. It was frustrating to see him trying to host those when i nice big rose was right next to them.
Anyway, anyone know if I shoudl still continue to feed my Anenome food? Or let the clown do his thing? I don't want to **** either off. |

do you think it makes a difference between tank raised and wild caught ocellaris? Because frankly, I don't know/remember what my Ocellaris are. haha

Mine is wild caught. Got a really nice one from lucky ocean in SF. I really don't know if it matters. I just think the wild caught ones have seen an anemone before so maybe it's a higher chance of hosting.

if i were you i will keep feeding the nem. I heard lot of mix thought on clown feeding nem. some say they steal food from nem and some say they stored it in their home (nem) eats it. Ask around if you like but when i had GBTA and RBTA i feed it twice a week silversides. and they were happy.
I had wild caught and tank bred. they will both host nem. of course depending on the fish itself you never know. it is like and angel fish in a reef tank. but it took mines a couple of day to host in the nem. but seem like eventally it will if it is a nem that is hostable. hope ya luck. also I heard you can get it to host by keeping a clown in a bucket wtih the nem for an hr or two with heater and stuff of course. and it will get use to it. but i never tried. they just seem to go hand in hand. klam114 |

IME, most will steal the food, but you can always try feeding your clowns and see if they bring the food to the anemone. Although, I have heard maroons are known to bring food to their hosts, but not all maroons.

Dave you can still feed you nem while the clown is eating or hiding in it... theres a chance he might pluck it off... but I suggest using a feeding tong or something as Maroons are known for being aggressive and will bite you...

Yeah I still fed my anem krill today. Lucky for me I have a peaceful tiny occellaris. I just fed the tank and the clown swam to eat then I fed the anem. the clown didn't seem bothered by it.

Your clown should get used to you feeding your nem... My previous ones always did.
