Green Coralline Alge?

My tank has been up and running for 5wks now. My live rock had lots of green coralline and some purple that bleached when I finished curing in a rubbermaid. My rock has been turning bright green with coralline over the past 2 weeks. It even flouresces under my actinics (looks really cool). It seems like I have read somewhere that the purple coralline will eventually overtake the green. I have small patches of dense healthy appearing purple throughout the tank. Is there any way to keep it from growing over the green? I would really like to have a mix of the two colors in my tank.

I have a mixture of both in my tank, about 75% is purple. Most of the green I get is on the glass and has to be scraped off every few weeks.

its not cyano. Its green Coraline. I had a lot in my tank. Its normal wait until the red blooms. As you mentioned purple coralline will eventually overtake the green

If it's hard and encrusting (has to be scraped off) it's coralline.

My coraline started life as a lime green color. It gets overgrown (mine did anyway )with the pink/ Purple.

This stuff does not have the slimy appearance that i have read about cyano having. it is lime green in color and looks very similar to the green coralline that came on the rock. anyone have pics of cyano for me to compare.

Yeah, its not cyano. Cyano is red, and if you ever had a cyano break out, you'll know what it looks like. Sounds like coraline to me also. I have both in purple and green in my tank also.

I am glad to hear this, I have a few pieces of base rock with lime green algae on it, it looks kinda cool cause its so bright and colorful, but I was planning on taking the rock out and scrubbing it off, cause I thought it was cyano, or just green algae.

How long did it take for the purple to grow over?
