sump question

Hi All,

I have a 20g long tank I want to convert into a sump for a 55g tank. My question is how thick should the glass be for the baffles?

If you would like to use 1/4 (.220 actually) acrylic you can, it will silicone in place nicely.

If you want to go with glass 1/4 is fine for that as well, since there is little pressure on the glass.

I agree with barbra. 1/4" is pretty standard for sumps of this height/width. Acrylic or glass will work fine.

Thanks for the replies. Should I use that GE 1200 silicone? The stuff I found at HD said it was only for glass.

At HD and lowes (at least mine) you can buy aquarium silicone. One tube should do a whole 20G. It's usually over in the paint department in the adhesives section (not next to caulk).

There are certain brands of GE silicone that have been used safely, I don't know which one that it, but you can use the stuff stated for use in aquariums without having to find out. It should cost the same either way.

GE Silicone I window and door, part number ge012a will work, about 3.50 to 4 a tube.
