Crabs and snails dying?

Hello,
about two weeks ago I introduced a cleanup crew into my 130 gal tank. During the first few days a large snail died. Now in the beginnning of the third week I noticed that two crabs were dead, out of their shell laying on the sand.

Is this normal for these critters to die off like this? Should I be worried, since my water parameters are fine. I introduced a large cleanup crew so I think its not that bad since only three critters out of over a hundred died. What do you think?

Happy new year!!!

What are you feeding them? Once all my visible algae was gone, I started feeding my crabs and peppermint shrimp marine flake and frozen mysis shrimp, twice a day. Even then, I've had a few losses (shrimp eating small crabs, and crabs eating crabs). Hermit crabs will also kill snails to get a larger shell if they outgrow their's, so it's a good idea to add some extra shells if you've got a lot of hermits.

It could be how you aclimated them. Inverts are sensitive to water changes. Could also be the water, what kind are you using?

For the hermit crabs, keep in mind that they molt, and the molts are very realistic-looking. I agree that acclimation might be an issue, though.

I think most hermit crabs molt every few weeks. Moving them to a new tank often induces a molt, though, due to the change in SG.
