O/T - My new baby :)

Any other riders here? I had been out of the sport bike scene for a couple years and just couldn't take it anymore. However, I gave up stunting so I'm just going to rider her "sort-of" normal...She does over 100mph in 1st gear

Quick question....how bad is it really on the roads on a bike? Are you always on the lookout for crazy car drivers, do people just not see you? I've obviously never had one, but just curious...

I know if riders are cautious, it should be fine, but how fine is it? Does that make any sense?

BTW...sweet bike!!

Thank you "all" for the nice comments.

Let's see...in addition to skill, it has a LOT to do with the rider's maturity level. If you ride like an idiot around traffic there's a good chance you'll get bit because of your own actions. However, you have to ride 100% defensive for a couple reasons...a bike is much smaller than a car and you're sort of mentally trained to focus on cars while driving so most people that pull out in front of you really didn't see you OR you were going too fast - it's really hard to judge the speed of an approaching bike due to the size.

Also, a lot of people start with a bike that has too much power for them to handle as first bike because of status. A 250cc is a great start but most will go straight to a 600 which is what I did. These bikes are NO joke - no matter what the size. The 600's will all run the quarter mile in the 10 second range - that's FAST. My bike is a 1000cc and produces 167 rear wheel horsepower, and it only weighs 365 lbs. It's like a rocket on wheels (definately an advanced rider's bike - but "some" will start here because they are stubborn - and they are the one's who usually get bit the fastest).

That being said, you can have good luck or bad luck no matter what...but I feel you can leverage your "luck" by riding smart

tsb fo sho. ya about the how fine is it. You have to be rediculously aware of EVERYthing around you. when people die on bikes its usually because some car didnt see the bike and pulled it front of it. gsellers, havent seen you on the N run yet... you should catch one, the weather is so awesome.

Great looking scoots you guys ride, but with the way everyone down here drives, it's a pretty big gamble and you know how the house always wins I'll stick to the four wheel off road variety 6.50's 220 MPH and it covers the first 60 feet in 1.01 seconds. Then at the top end when the dual 12 foot chutes hit and try to drag down 2350 lbs you get to feel your eyeballs trying to leave their sockets [IMG][/IMG]

Nice bike there. I wish I had a budget for a touring bike and a rocket. lol I went the middle ground witha Vstrom 1000.

As for the roads here in FL. I cant recall a day I rode that I havent had someone try to kill me. lol You can better your odds by not being an idiot. But its still florida. Half the drives are too old to see and the other half can see past there cell phones. lol Just have to keep a watch.

Nice.....

I'd love to have one myself. Used to have a Katana about 10yrs ago. It was cool for a while but it was heavy for a 600 and a dog compaired to the new ones that were coming out. I've always loved the GSXR's.

Thats a big YEP on the defensive driving... Couldn't imagine riding in Fla with all the blue heads and tourists etc. I once had a very close call riding in the rain. Light turned red (at night) and I knew I couldn't come close to stopping. I literally had my left foot on my seat about to bail off before t-boning a 57 chevy then he stopped and flashed his lights to let me know he saw me coming. Climbed back down on the bike and slid thru the intersection. I stopped in a parking lot to catch my breath and I could see my heart pounding THRU MY JACKET!!

Have fun, be safe and Keep the shiny side up!

Chris
