Directly not yet anyway...there have been several mornings where we have gotten up and seen his fresh tracks through the yard and along the boss's pool deck. There are a lot of people here that would like to get that big of a lion. I don't think it was this lion but there was another one that a few years ago killed and ate one of our kittys on the front step at about 10:00 in the morning. Don' know what the lion pop. is like in your area but here their just thick. Earlier this winter we had a least 4 different lions (at the same time) around the house here. Anymore it isn't unusual to scare one out of the sheds or something, just breeding like rabbits...

thats pretty low, don't know how they do it there but here on at least bear and lion its a quota system. So many females and males can be taken and you have to call game & fish within 24hrs of taking one. then you have to take it to them and they get all kinds of samples (teeth, DNA I think and probably some other things).

habitat destruction is a way of life here.

i'll trade you a thousand gators for 100 mountain lions.
and i'll throw in a frag of xenia too.

can anyone name a large apex predator that is not endangered? You know when i saw that cardboard box baby picture, i thought...huh, now did they crawl in there, or did they get shoved in there? Then i thought- hey if we sold those in stores, they'd sell off the shelves- who's going to walk by and leave a kid in a box on the shelf? Now...if only we could convince people to make those things and get paid to do it as their legitimate job...One favorite coyote hunting technique of mine is on farms, they'll send a female in heat out into a field to attract the male farm dog, and once ole yeller's out in the middle of the field, all the other coyotes rush in. No more yeller.
To be honest, I'm suprised you could sleep through a deer being taken down and eaten in your backyard...although you probably have a sizeable yard or something- I'm not in my environment here living in DC...

A quest for knowledge!

Having a fenced yard we don't see many animals. Bunnies and deer come in. Had a badger come up to the house once. Luckily the neighbors calles and told me not to let the dogs out.

Debi, are badgers as mean as they are reputed to be? I don't really even know the range of badgers. I don't think we have them here. We have to be happy with skunks, raccoons and possums.

Well Brian, UW's mascot is the badger, and he's tall, fuzzy, friendly, and loves to hug children. The wild badger MUST be the same way, right?

Any nature show I've ever watched showed them pretty bad. Dumb as my dogs are about animals they would have run after it. They're awesome looking tho.

mountain lions...... If I ever saw one of those in my backyard, I think I would probably crap myself About the only cool thing living in my backyard is a peacock. A long time ago (supposedly), there was a tornado and a guy who had a whole bunch of peacocks and pea hens had his fence break during the storm. The peacock ended up in my neighborhood and sleeps in a tree in my backyard during the summer. During the winter some guy opens up his shed and puts in some hay for him to stay warm.
