But wait, theres more, order in the next 5 mins during this infomercial, and you will receive, ABSOLUTELY FREE, a cute monkey chew toy, for when your dog twigs that the stick has less bark than he has.

Rick, funny you should mention that

When my dog ran off like a shot, I wondered what it was that scared him. I went outside, and saw the coyotes in the field. As I was watching them, one of the coyotes was obviously eating something. I watched as he carried something black off in his mouth.

Now, one of the kittens that comes around is solid black, a very neat looking kitten. I immediately thought the worse. I went out in the field (the coyotes scattered immediately) and looked around for the black object I saw one carrying. I didn't find anything, but I did find some "blood splatter" in the field. Not good. I walked back into my front yard from the corn field, and that is when I saw the dead deer on the very edge of my yard next to the field. I assumed the loss of all its body from the front legs back was probably fatal. My yard was a nice shade of red for probably 20 square feet, so it put up a struggle evidently.

Anyway, I was thinking the deer was the meal, not the kitten, and it was verified just a few minutes later when the little black kitten and its mother were sitting on the patio outside my kitchen window waiting to be fed.

Not that I really care about that fluffy little cat

If you walk out into a meadow here with the coyotes, they'd never run. Ours are not afraid of people.

Coyotes can take deer, as can could Buster. Normally they don't mess with healthy adults, the chance of injury is very high. The deer may have been sick or malnourished. As far as weapons go, just remember not to act like food near a wild predator. Food runs away and squeals.

Yes, I am glad Buster is an inside dog. I wouldn't want him outside with those coyotes roaming around. They were some of the biggest coyotes I have seen. I was kidding about the weapon, I wouldn't be able to shoot anything. They still seem to have a healthy fear of people, which is a good thing.

I will remember to not run and squeal. I am not sure I know how to squeal anyway. You are probably thinking of your encounter with Beerguy.

Brian you might want to try and do something now about those coyotes. If given time they can get brave.

I remember one night when I was in the army. I was asleep in the field on the hood of a HUMVEE. I awoke about 3 in the morning to find a coyote starring at me. I did not know what to do. thank goodness I had an M-16 with blanks in it.

Thanks Adam, I really think the only reason I saw them at all was because of the dead deer. It was the first time in my two years there that I have seen any. If they start hanging around, I have a brother who would love to sit on my front porch and plug them.

Actually, with the booming deer population, we probably need the coyotes around to keep them in check. Of course, they may also keep the wild cat and stray dog population in check as well.

Just be lucky you have coyotes. Here we have mountain lions, bears, coyotes, and now wolves (I haven't seen one yet, but know some friends that have and there have been several sightings close by). I'm not afraid of any of them but it gets a little worriesome with all the pets.

The bear and the lions are ok, their populations are not as high as the coyotes, and except for the idiots that feed them and bring them in closer to us, I don't worry about them.
The yotes, they frighten me. Even in the center of town they are bold and in packs. And people are so dumb, they think it's ok to feed them because they act tame.

I thought plastic bags made better toys for children than empty boxes? Am I missing something? I have a bunch of leftover grocery sacks I can market as toys.

Wanna hear some stories? Ok here is one, this will probably start sounding like a myth to some of you but I can guarantee that it is real.

We have a HUGE mountain lion around here, and when I say HUGE he is HUGE. My dad has about the same size of hands as I do (stretch my hands out its about a 8" square) and he can put his hand stretched out in the track and not touch the sides. This is a big lion. Anyway as of yet nobody has been able to kill it, escapes everytime and there have been quite a few people hunting it for a while (a least 5 years or better). I know somebody (might have been my cousin, I forget ) was able to get some pictures of it with a trail camera. And I know a couple people have managed to get it tree'd (almost everyone here uses dogs) but it either escapes by the time they get there or they are just plain too exahsted to get to the tree. So as of yet it still lives...

Its also kinda spooky to see your fresh tracks that you only made 15min ago in the snow...and then see mountain lion tracks on top of yours.
